Uromastyx is a genus of lizards that belongs to the family Agamidae. It is a genus native to the Middle East and Africa. Member species are popularly referred to as called uromastyces, spiny-tailed lizards, dabb lizards or mastigures.

Description

The colors become lighter in warm weather, especially when basking, but during cool weather, they appear dull and dark. The skin absorbs sunlight more effectively due to the darker pigmentation.

They have a muscular and heavy spiked tail which can very quickly be swung at an attacker. This behavior is usually accompanied by an open-mouthed display of (small) teeth and hissing.
